The details below outline the minimum entry requirements for direct entry into any of the programs offered at Canning College. Forecast results or preliminary results can be accepted.

The Department of Home Affairs age requirements for students seeking Year 12 entry is under 20 years old at the time of course commencement. There is no age limit for WAUFP students, however most are aged between 17 and 24 years.

The minimum requirements to demonstrate English competency for Year 12 entry are:

  • GCE ‘O’ Level or IGCSE English: C6.
  • CEFR: B2.
  • Hong Kong: English medium school: 55%; Chinese medium school: 65%.
  • IELTS Overall Band Score: 5.5.
  • TOEFL IBT: 46.
  • PTE Academic: 42.
  • CAE: 47.

 The minimum requirements to demonstrate academic competency for Year 12 entry are:

  • Australia: Year 11 with good grades.
  • Bangladesh: HSC (10+2) second division pass. Year 11 equivalent with an average of 60%.
  • Brunei: O Level with 4 C grades.
  • Bhutan: HSC (10+2) with satisfactory pass.
  • Cambodia: Year 11 with a 65% overall grade.
  • China (PRC): Year 2 senior high school, 70% average in 4 academic subjects.
  • China (Hong Kong): Form 5 with 50% or higher in relevant academic subjects.
  • China (Macau): Year 2 senior high school with 70% average in 4 academic subjects.
  • India: Year 11 with 50% or higher in relevant academic subjects.
  • Indonesia: SMA2 / Year 11 with average 7.0.
  • Japan: Kotogakko Year 2 Certificate. 
  • Kenya: KCSE or O Levels with C grade average.
  • Korea (South): High School Certificate with 4 D grades.
  • Malaysia: GCE O Levels, IGCSE or SPM with minimum 4 C grades in relevant subjects. Trial exam or forecast result accepted. Senior Middle 2 with C grade average.
  • Mauritius: O Levels with 4 C grades.
  • Oman: Thanawiya amma with 70% average.
  • Singapore: IGCSE and GCE O Levels with 4 C grades. N levels on a case by case basis. Preliminary exam results accepted. 
  • South Africa: Year 12 with 3 standard grade passes. Year 11 pass grade average.
  • Sri Lanka: GCE O Levels with 4 C grades.
  • Taiwan: Senior middle 2 with 60% average in 4 academic subjects.
  • Thailand: Matayom 5 with GPA of 2.5.
  • Turkey: High school diploma with D grades in 4 academic subjects.
  • United Arab Emirates: Tawjihiyya, Secondary School Certifiate with 70% average in 4 relevant subjects.
  • Vietnam: Year 11 with minimum GPA 6.5.
  • Zambia: ECZ or O Levels with C grade average.
  • Zimbabwe: ZimSec / O Level with 4 C grades.

The minimum requirements to demonstrate English competency for Diploma of Commerce entry are:

  • WACE English, WAUFP ELACS: 50%.
  • WACE EALD: 50%.
  • GCE ‘O’ Level English: C6.
  • 1119 SPM English: C5.
  • Hong Kong: L4 in Senior; Secondary 3 English.
  • IELTS Overall Band Score: 6.0.
  • TOEFL IBT: 60.
  • PTE Academic: 50.
  • CAE: 52.

The minimum requirements to demonstrate academic competency for the Diploma of Commerce are:

  • Australia: ATAR 60, acceptable Year 12 grades or Certificate IV results, WAUFP CPS of 45.
  • Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan: Completion of Higher Secondary Certificate (10+2) with 65% average. 
  • Brunei: A Levels with 3 passes (minimum of 2 Ds and 1E).
  • Cambodia: Year 12 with 65%-70% overall grade.
  • China (PRC): Senior Middle 3 with 70% average in 4 academic subjects.
  • China (Hong Kong): Form 6. A minimum score of 10 in relevant subjects (total of best 4).
  • China (Macau): Senior Middle 3 with 1 A and 3 B grades or an average of 80% in 4 academic subjects.
  • India: Senior School Certificate with 55% in 4 academic subjects. 
  • Indonesia: Year 12 with average grade 7.0.
  • Japan: High School Graduation with B grade average
  • Kenya: KCSE C+ average with pass in Mathematics, A Levels 4 points with 2 passes.
  • Korea (South): High School Leaving Certificate with grade average 3.0.
  • Malaysia: STPM or Senior Middle 3 (UEC) with 2Bs and 2Cs in relevant academic subjects. GCE ‘A’ Levels with 4 C grades in relevant academic subjects. 
  • Oman: GSSC + local diploma (superior results); IB – 20 points; A levels with 2 passes (min 2Ds and 1 E – 5 points); All India High School Certificate with an average of 60%. 
  • Singapore: GCE A levels with 2 passes (min 2 Ds).
  • Sri Lanka: GCE A levels with 3 passes (min 2 Ds and 1 E) or 2 credits in Sri Lanka A levels.
  • Taiwan: Senior Middle 3 with 70% average in 4 academic subjects. 
  • Thailand: Matayom 6 with GPA of 3.0 in relevant academic subjects.
  • United Arab Emirates: Tawjihiyya + local diploma (superior results). Other results considered on a case by case basis.
  • Vietnam: Successful completion of Year 12 with 7.0 average in relevant subjects.
  • Zambia: ECZ + local diploma (superior results). A levels with 3 passes (min 2 Ds and 1 E – 5 points).  
  • Zimbabwe: Higher School Certificate/ ZimSec with A Levels with 3 passes (min 2 Ds and 1 E).

The minimum requirements to demonstrate English competency for Certificate IV in University Access entry are:

  • WACE English, WAUFP ELACS: 50%.
  • WACE EALD: 50%.
  • GCE ‘O’ Level English: C6.
  • 1119 SPM English: C6.
  • Hong Kong: English medium school: 55%; Chinese medium school: 65%.
  • IELTS Overall Band Score: 5.5.
  • TOEFL IBT: 46.
  • PTE Academic: 42.
  • CAE: 47.

The minimum requirements to demonstrate academic competency for Certificate IV in University Access entry are:

  • Australia: Year 11 with good grades. Certificate III in a General Education field of study (e.g. Cert III in Business Studies). A nationally recognised Certificate III course registered on the NTS.
  • Bangladesh: HSC (10+2) Second Division Pass. Year 11 equivalent with 55% average. 
  • Brunei: GCE O Levels with minimum D grades in 4 academic subjects.
  • China (PRC): Senior Middle 2 with 60% average in 4 academic subjects.
  • China (Hong Kong): Form 5 with 45% or higher in relevant academic subjects.
  • China (Macau): Senior Secondary 2 or Form 5 with minimum 3 passes in academic subjects.
  • India: Senior School Certificate with 50% in 4 academic subjects.
  • Indonesia: SMA2 / Year 11 with average 6.5. 
  • Japan: Kotogakko Year 2 Certificate.
  • Kenya: KCSE or O Levels with D grade average.
  • Korea (South): Senior High School Year 2.
  • Malaysia: SPM with minimum D grade in 4 academic. subjects. Senior Middle 2 (Yr 11) with minimum average 50% over 5 academic subjects. SAM ATAR 50.
  • Mauritius: GCE ‘O’ Levels with minimum D grades in 4 academic subjects.
  • Oman: Thanawiya amma or Secondary School Leaving Certificate with 70% average. 
  • Singapore: GCE ‘O’ Level with minimum D grades in 4 academic subjects. N levels on a case by case basis.
  • Taiwan: Senior High School Year 2 with 60% average over 4 academic subjects
  • Thailand: Matayom 5 with GPA of 2.2.
  • Turkey: State High School Diploma with D grades in 4 academic subjects.
  • United Arab Emirates: Tawjihiyya, Secondary School Certifiate.
  • Vietnam: Successful completion of Year 11 / Diploma of General Education with minimum GPA 6.0.
  • Zambia: Minimum 4 passes in Zambia School Certificate (ECZ). 
  • Zimbabwe: ZimSec / O Level with minimum 4 passes. Completion of Year 11 or equivalent. 

Students seeking to enrol in Bridging Programs are assessed by the Canning College admissions team using a student’s most recent academic records. Requirements depend on which bridging program the student enrols in. As a guide, a student seeking to bridge into a Year 11 program will generally be assessed against the minimum requirements for Year 10 studies. Similarly, a student seeking to bridge into a Year 12 program will be required to meet the minimum requirements for Year 11 studies.

The Department of Home Affairs age requirements for students for Year 11 entry is under 19 years old at time of course commencement. The minimum requirements to demonstrate English competency for Year 11 entry are:

  • 1119 SPM English: D7.
  • Hong Kong: English medium school: 55%; Chinese medium school: 65%.
  • IELTS Overall Band Score: 5.0.
  • TOEFL IBT: 34.
  • PTE Academic: 36.
  • CAE: 41.

 The minimum requirements to demonstrate academic competency for Year 11 entry are:

  • Australia: Year 10 with 4 C grades.
  • Bangladesh: Year 10 equivalent with 60% average. 
  • Brunei: Form 4 with 4 C grades.
  • Bhutan: Year 11 10+1.
  • China (PRC): Year 1 senior high school, 70% average in 4 academic subjects.
  • China (Hong Kong): Form 4 with 50% or higher in relevant academic subjects.
  • China (Macau): Year 1 senior high school with 65% average in 4 academic subjects.
  • India: Year 10 with 50% or higher in relevant academic subjects.
  • Indonesia: Year 10 with average 7.0.
  • Japan: Year 11 with GPA of 2.0.
  • Kenya: Year 11 with C grade average.
  • Korea (South): Year 11 with 4 D grades.
  • Malaysia: Form 4 with 4 C grades in academic subjects.
  • Mauritius: Form 4 with C grade average.
  • Oman: Pass at Year 10 level
  • Singapore: Year 10 equivalent. N levels on a case by case basis.
  • South Africa: Pass at Year 10 level.
  • Sri Lanka: Year 10 with 4 C grades.
  • Taiwan: Senior middle 1 with 65% average in 4 academic subjects.
  • Thailand: Matayom 4 with GPA of 2.5.
  • Turkey: Pass at Year 10 level
  • United Arab Emirates: Pass at Year 10 level. 
  • Vietnam: Year 10 with 4 passes
  • Zambia: Year 11 with C grade average.
  • Zimbabwe: Form 4 with 3 C grades.

 The minimum requirements to demonstrate academic competency for Year 10 entry are:

  • Year 9 — Australia, China PRC, India, Indonesia, Korea (South), South Africa, Sri Lanka, Vietnam.
  • Form 3 — Brunei, China (Hong Kong), Kenya, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
  • Year 10 — Japan, United Arab Emirates.
  • M3 — Thailand.
